Kalis Batch (T1) Outing in Bohol

To wrap up the year in a more relaxed mood, the Kalis Batch went on their planned outing in Bohol. Organized by the welcoming Bol-anons in the group, the excursion was an opportunity for some to experience riding in a boat for the first time and to see the beauty of the Visayas islands, especially Bohol. The 3-day escapade featured visits to the Chocolate Hills, Baclayon Church, Danao Extreme Adventure Tour, Dolphin Watching in Pamilacan, etc. etc.

FORMAL LAUNCHING OF THE SILVER JUBILEE

With great jubilation, SJVTS launched her silver anniversary on 16 March 2010! As planned, a motorcade around the city opened the celebration. While not that many participated from the alumni, people were just as happy and joyful--especially Fr. Frank S.--kay wala kuno to sa Maynila! In the afternoon, at 5:00 pm, Bishop-elect of Malaybalay, Jose Cabantan, blessed the newly-renovated sacristy now named after the late Fr. Angel Antonio, S.J. Members of the faculty blessed the individual rooms and the furnishings with the new bell in front of the chapel. Then, the solemn eucharistic celebration followed with, again, Bishop-elect Joe Cabantan presiding. Dinner for all followed in front of the Chapel after which a mini-concert of the Koro Viannista was staged in the Chapel. Laus Deo!

Libby Abesamis Defends MA Thesis

The Graduate Theology Program (GTP) of SJVTS congratulates Libby Abesamis who successfully defended her thesis for MA in Theology entitled, "The Socio-Pastoral-Theological Vision of Archbishop Antonio Ledesma for the Church in Mindanao (1997-2009)." One of the few brave souls who accepted the challenge of writing a thesis, Libby showed mastery and a clear grasp of what the Archbishop's vision is on Peace and Development, Good Governance and Responsible Citizenship, Natural Family Planning as a Pastoral Imperative, grounding these on the documents of the Church especially the Catholic Social Teachings. Too bad there were not that many to witness her outstanding defense due to conflict of schedules. Well done, Libby! and Congratulations!

FR. ANGEL LAID TO REST

After 5 days of wake at the Seminary, Fr. Angel Antonio's remains were finally brought to Manresa for burial on Wednesday, 03 March 2010. The funeral mass was presided over by the Jesuit Provincial, Fr. Jojo Magadia, S.J., with Bishop-Elect of Malaybalay, Monsignor Jose Cabantan, Bishop Julius Tonel of Ipil, and Archbishop Tony Ledesma of Cagayan de Oro. Also present were, of course, the parishioners of Ipil Prelature where Fr. Tony spent some 43 years of priestly ministry, the parishioners of Lumbia, the nephews and nieces of Fr. Antonio, priests and religious, and the Seminary community. During the homily, Fr. Larry Elar shared his experiences with Fr. Tony; after the prayer after communion, representatives of the Seminary also gave short testimonies: Ms.Venus Guibone representing the formators, Mr. Regan Aglegar, Seminary personnel who used to drive Fr. Tony to and from Lumbia and other places for masses, and Sem. Titing Estillore representing the seminarians. Bp. Tonel and Archbishop Ledesma also gave short testimonies. Finally, the niece of Fr. Angel, Ms. Marilyn Antonio spoke in behalf of the family, especially thanking everyone for having shown friendship and love towards Fr. Angel when he was still alive. After the mass, the remains were brought to Searsolin in Manresa where the rite of committal and final farewell were made. The beautiful and solemn liturgy was a fitting tribute to a man who lived only for others and A.M.D.G. We will miss you, Fr. Tony! May you rest in peace...
