The Demise of Uncle Dodong Rizada, Jr. - Cebu

On 22 February 2009, after a long bout with illness, Mr. Emiliano Rizada, Jr. succumbed and returned to his Creator leaving behind his family, relatives and friends at age 75. True to his being a director (of stage and radio plays), Tio Dodong scripted and directed his passing away and wake rites with utmost care and precision. He did not have a burial rite, really, for he willed that his body be cremated and his ashes be placed beside their home's grotto. And so, on 25 February, Ash Wednesday, he who was formed from dust or ash returned literally to ash. May the Lord look kindly upon him who, though a demanding person, gave his all not only for his craft and family but also and most especially for his community. Here are some photo highlights especially for our relatives:

SJVTS Academe Day 09

St. John Vianney Theological Seminary held its Academe Day for 2009 today, 27 February, the last day of regular classes for the school year. As usual, the event was colored by a number of events that were aimed at highlighting the academic life of the community. Among the features of this year's culminating event were: the Theological Debate on important issues in the Seminary and in the Church, the Pauline Songwriting and Painting Contests, the Pauline Quiz Bee, and the Propaedeutic English classes presentations. While the schedule was quite hectic and compact, everybody came out satisfied with the results--thanks to the cooperation of everybody but especially to the efforts of the Academic Dean, Fr. Abet Uy, and the Academic liaison office, Mike Casinillo, with his juniors. We are grateful, too, for the presence of our guests, benefactors, and friends. In the end, while the activity marked the culmination of theological studies for this year, it was more than just an academic exercise: it was an integrative and a community-building event. Here are some photos-highlights of the affair.

SJVTS Pastoral Day 2009

To celebrate and wrap up the year's pastoral program, St. John Vianney Theological Seminary
held its Pastoral Day 2009. Representatives from the various apostolate areas came to celebrate with
the Seminary community. It is the Seminary's way of thanking the Lord for the year's
fruitful ministry; to thank the various people, in particular for their very important role in helping
to mold our seminarians into better pastors in the future. The theme for this year is based on a Pauline theme:
"USA KA LAWAS NI KRISTO, ALANG SA KATILINGBANONG PAGBAG-O."

SJVTS Formators Meeting in Philipps

Instead of the bi-monthly Wednesday meeting of formators being held in the Seminary, it was held instead at the parish of Our Lady of Lourdes on the occasion of its fiesta. The venue was the convent of the Mercy Sisters.
